If you’ve never attended Folksmoot before, you may be wondering what kind of event it actually is. Folksmoot is not a reenactment, and it’s not a traditional LARP with complex spell lists or rigid character sheets. Instead, it’s a Viking-inspired living fantasy experience focused on immersion, community, and shared storytelling.
Over the course of the weekend, participants come together to build kits, learn combat systems, take part in roleplay, and ultimately fight and feast as one living world.
A Weekend Built Around Community
The early days of Folksmoot are intentionally slower paced. Time is set aside for crafting, repairing gear, and helping one another build or improve kits. New participants are encouraged to ask questions, borrow tools, and learn directly from fellow attendees. This communal preparation is a core part of the event, not a side activity.
As the weekend progresses, combat training and sparring sessions help prepare everyone for larger encounters. You’ll learn how weapons and armor function within the system, practice safely, and get comfortable with your role before the main conflict unfolds.
The Experience in Motion
Combat at Folksmoot is immersive and roleplay-driven. Fights can break out organically, but they are always governed by clear safety rules and overseen by game masters. Some participants fight on the front lines, while others support from behind as healers, archers, crafters, or storytellers. Every role matters.
At the end of the event, the community comes together to feast, celebrate victories, and reflect on the story you helped create.
Safety, Consent, and Respect
Folksmoot places a strong emphasis on safety and inclusivity. Clear safety calls are used throughout the event, and consent is an active part of roleplay and physical interaction. Game masters are present to help resolve issues, answer questions, and ensure fair play.
This is a space meant for immersive fun, not intimidation. Whether this is your first event or your fiftieth, you are welcome here.
