Meet Colton – Agricultural and Forest Plot Lead at Folksmoot: Viking Raid Weekend

One of the things that makes Folksmoot: Viking Raid Weekend more than just a Viking festival is the living world created by its faction leaders and storytellers. This year, Colton will be leading the Agricultural and Forest Plot, helping bring the skills of hunters, gatherers, and farmers into the heart of the village experience.

While warriors prepare for raids, the survival of any Viking settlement depends on the land, the forests that provide materials, the fields that produce food, and the knowledge passed down through generations. Colton’s plot explores this side of Viking life through interactive storytelling, demonstrations, and hands-on participation that connects attendees to the natural world around them.

Participants will learn how people in the Viking Age interacted with forests, farmland, and seasonal resources. Through agricultural lore, woodland knowledge, and village traditions, Colton will guide attendees in discovering how materials from the wild can become tools, supplies, and useful goods within the evolving story of Folksmoot.

Throughout the weekend, visitors may encounter opportunities to gather materials from the environment and contribute to crafting efforts that support the village during raiding season. These activities help transform the event from a simple reenactment into a living Viking experience, where the actions of participants help shape the story unfolding around them.

Adding to the atmosphere, Colton will be accompanied by a troupe of goat backup dancers who help bring her stories to life blending folklore, humor, and tradition into the Agricultural and Forest Plot in a way that captures the spirit of community that defined Viking settlements.

At Folksmoot: Viking Raid Weekend, every role matters. from shield-wall fighters to storytellers, craftspeople, hunters, and farmers. The Agricultural and Forest Plot reminds us that long before the raid begins, the village must survive the seasons.

If you’re looking for a Viking festival in New England, an immersive historical event, or a hands-on LARP experience, Folksmoot offers a chance to step into a living story shaped by the land, the people, and the traditions they carry forward.

Join us this season and experience the village beyond the battlefield.
